Introduction
Architecture is essentially the art of reconciliation. It involves resolving specific and general demands of its users within a projected image of three-dimensional form. The design of a building is a creative, rather than a calculable process but, unlike other art-forms, it is concerned with a positive search for solutions. There can be no solution without a problem, no problem without constraints, and no constraints without a need. Either a need is automatically met at the outset and there is no problem, or the need is not met because of certain obstacles. Finding out how to overcome these obstacles is the concern of good design.
Cosmont Design Group (thereafter CDG) is a Sydney-based Australian architecture group. Cosmont Pty Ltd was co-founded in 1994 by Bede Ishinjerro with Yang Yun, a world-renowned architect who was chief architect of the China Architecture Design and Research Group and later worked in Hong Kong and Sydney. Cosmont Pty Ltd subsequently has an ongoing association with the China Architecture Design and Research Group.
The China Architecture Design and Research Group (henceforth CADRG) is a large state-owned enterprise. Over the past 60 years it has completed important state projects such as the Beijing Railway Station, National Library of China, the China Art Gallery, Beijing International Hotel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Building, the Capital Museum, and the China National Stadium of Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games. The Group includes the China National Engineering Research Centre for Human Settlement, the Research Base of the Conservation of National Heritage.
It entered the international building design and construction market after China adopted an open door policy, and has entered into joint ventures with, for example, Singapore CPG Group to design the Xiamen Airport; and Xianyang International Airport in Xi'an with Landrum & Brown, Inc, an Australian airport design consultancy company.
With a staff of over 2,100, including four hundred nationally registered architects and six hundred senior designers and researchers, CAG has an enormous capacity to design and implement large scale projects using cutting edge technology, including BIM Design.
China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd, which is represented in Australia as the China Construction Oceania Pty Ltd (thereafter CSO), has constructed ninety percent of the airports in China. Its many projects include the 53 floor high rise Customs Residential in Auckland; the African Union Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a floor area of 51,800 square metres; the Sheraton Hotel, Algeria; and the 40 floor Laguna Tower in Dubai.
